SkyGuided Path
A structured pathway to understanding the night sky
SkyGuided is designed as a progressive learning path for understanding and navigating the night sky.
Each level focuses on a specific objective and builds upon the foundations established in the previous one. The goal is not to accumulate isolated pieces of information, but to progressively develop a coherent understanding of the visible sky and how to orient yourself under it.
The path begins with practical orientation under the night sky. Later levels expand this understanding toward the nature of stars, the large structures of the universe, and the scientific methods used to study them.
At the moment, the first level of this path is available.
Available Course
Night Sky Navigator
Night Sky Navigator is the first level of the SkyGuided learning path.
You begin here a progressive learning process focused on navigating the night sky with the naked eye.
This level is not a collection of information.
It is a method.
Global Objective of the Course
By the end of Night Sky Navigator, you will be able to:
- Navigate the night sky independently
- Locate celestial north quickly
- Identify the essential circumpolar constellations
- Recognize at least two seasonal constellations for each season
- Understand the apparent movements of the sky
- Identify planets visible to the naked eye
- Plan the observation of a meteor shower
These skills form the practical foundation required to orient yourself under the stars.
Concrete Result
In practical terms, this means that:
- You will be able to go outside without using an application
- You will know where to look
- You will understand what you are observing
- You will be able to explain the basic orientation of the sky to someone else
When Is This Level Truly Mastered?
You can consider Night Sky Navigator mastered when:
- You can find Polaris in less than two minutes
- You spontaneously recognize at least three circumpolar constellations (Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, and Cassiopeia)
- You can recognize two seasonal constellations without assistance
- You understand why the sky appears to rotate during the night
How to Progress Efficiently
To progress effectively through the course:
- Follow the chapters in order
- Validate each chapter (quiz ≥ 70%)
- Complete the practical action steps
- Go outside and observe
This course cannot be learned by watching alone.
It is learned by looking at the sky.
Recommended Pace
This level is best assimilated progressively over several observation sessions.
It is normal to need two or three nights of observation to consolidate the reference points introduced in the course.
Orientation in the night sky is a practical skill that develops through repeated observation and experience.
Course Structure
- Chapter 1 — Preparing Your First Observation
- Chapter 2 — Tools for Planning Your Journey Through the Sky
- Chapter 3 — Mastering Circumpolar Constellations — Northern Hemisphere
- Chapter 4 — Mastering Seasonal Constellations — Northern Hemisphere
- Chapter 5 — Understanding the Apparent Motions of the Sky
- Chapter 6 — Discovering Naked-Eye Phenomena of the Solar System
Future Levels of the SkyGuided Path
The SkyGuided path is designed to expand progressively beyond orientation in the sky.
Future levels will explore:
Stellar Interpreter
Understanding what stars are and what their observable properties reveal.
Universe Explorer
Discovering the large structures and forces that shape the universe.
Cosmic Architect
Approaching the scientific models and theories used to explain the universe at the deepest level.
These levels will extend the foundations established in Night Sky Navigator.
